Benjamin Law is a Sydney-based television screenwriter, feature journalist and newspaper columnist. Two of his books—The Family Law (2010) and Gaysia: Adventures in the Queer East (2012)—were nominated for Australian Book Industry Awards. Gaysia was also published in India in 2013 and North America in 2014. Benjamin is also the co-author of the comedy book, Shit Asian Mothers Say (2014), which he wrote with his sister Michelle and illustrator Oslo Davis.
The Family Law, currently in its fourth reprint, has been translated into French and adapted as a major SBS television series. Benjamin is the creator and co-writer of the series, and was also an associate producer and researcher of the SBS feature documentary Deep Water: The Real Story (2016).
Benjamin has a PhD in creative writing and cultural studies, and has written for more than 50 publications, businesses and agencies in Australia and worldwide. He is a weekly columnist for Good Weekend magazine (The Sydney Morning Herald/The Age), and a frequent contributor to the magazines frankie and The Monthly.
