FAQ

Can I buy tickets at the door?
Some tickets are usually available at the door, but many of our sessions sell out quickly, so your best chance of securing your tickets is to purchase them online prior to the event. Most tickets are sold through the Theatre Royal. Online sales will close on Friday 15th September at 2pm. Any remaining tickets will be available for sale at the door, at an additional $5 per ticket.

How do I sign up as a volunteer and what does volunteering involve?
The Tasmanian Writers & Readers Festival would not be possible without the generous support of its volunteers. For more info and to download the registration form, click here.

How much do the events typically cost?
Session prices vary according to the length and content of each event. This year, most of our sessions range in price from $17-$22, while masterclasses are between $66-$99. You’ll also find some cheaper family events and readings as well as a number of free events across the four days. Check our program for detailed pricing information. Please note: all online ticket sales will close on Friday 15 September at 2.00pm. Any remaining tickets will be available for purchase at the door at an additional cost of $5 per ticket.

How long does the Festival run for?
The Tasmanian Writers & Readers Festival begins on Thursday 14 September and closes on Sunday 17 September.

I am a writer. Can I discuss my work at the festival?
The Tasmanian Writers & Readers Festival has a carefully curated program involving Tasmanian, Australian, and international emerging and established writers. We would love to hear about your work and include you in our programming, so be sure to email details about you and your work to admin@taswriters.org. We will contact you once a programming decision is made.

Can I get the contact details for a Festival author?
Our guests’ contact details are strictly confidential, so we are unable to share them. Under very special circumstances, we may request permission from the author to share contact details. Otherwise, the best way to contact many of our authors is through their publishers or through the Centre.

Does the Festival run any writing competitions?
In 2017 we are launching the inaugural Emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal Writers Award. This award is open to all emerging Tasmanian Aboriginal writers. Click here for more info.
